A GUILT FREE HOLIDAY SEASON

canstockphoto8061548 (2)The Holidays approach us, it seems in hurry

Bringing again the temptation that gives me great worry

The turkey, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes and gravy

I’ll devour a quantity that could feed a great Navy

The stuffing, the ice cream, the cakes and the pie

I’ll be a glutton until January, when again I’ll ask why

Why is my waist the size of a house?

Why can’t I wear by biggest stretch blouse?

Why did I eat all the candy and cheese?

Why did I answer to seconds, “Yes please!”

Why is it that I surrender my will?

Eating carbs and sugar; never feeling my fill

Why can’t I stop with just a little taste?

Why does my best friend have such small waist?

How does she curb her appetite with such ease?

Please tell me her secret, I’m begging you please

Let this be the January I wake with much pride

Noticing my hips is a little less wide

When I step on the scale without a tinge of guilt

And see such a small number instead of the word “Tilt”

Enjoy A Hot, Delicious Cup Of Coffee on Me!

A_small_cup_of_coffeeIf you enjoy drinking coffee, you probably feel that you have learned all there is to know about the topic. In fact, it is actually quite a complex subject. Whether you need to buy coffee, make coffee or have to do anything else related to coffee, there is a lot of information out there to take in. This article will provide you with some of the best tips about coffee.

If you are feeling down, try changing to a new flavor of coffee. Simple changes like this can help stimulate your mind and pull you out of your rut. Be sure to take time to enjoy this special cup and try to identify the new flavors. Keep a few sample packs in your cupboard to pull out for these special occasions.

If you want fresh coffee, you should try ordering it online from a fair trade organization or a roaster’s website. The coffee you order will be fresher than anything you can find in a store. Your second best option is to get coffee grounds from your local coffee shop since this is probably the only store that sells enough coffee to get fresh coffee on a regular basis.

Make sure that you always refrain from putting coffee beans in the freezer or refrigerator. When these beans are placed in areas that contain food, it will absorb the smells of the food and take away from the coffee taste. This will ruin the quality of your coffee, as you should always separate beans from other nourishments.

To get the best possible coffee, look for the ones that are made of 100% Arabica beans. These beans are of top quality and will give you the best taste after you are finished brewing. Furthermore, these beans preserve their freshness longer so that you can have great coffee for a very long time.

You can use coffee to bring the shine back to hair that looks worn and dull. Brew some extra strong coffee then allow it to cool. Place it on hair that is clean and dry and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. After that, rinse your hair and style it as you normally would.

Pay attention to the soil the coffee beans were grown in. If you grind your own coffee, beans are important. The soil used to grow the beans you are using can make a huge difference in taste. Do a bit of research if you have particular tastes when it comes to coffee.

Weight Loss

A lot of people believe that drinks with caffeine, like coffee, can assist with weight loss. Caffeine is known to elevate your metabolism and can make you feel more energetic. With extra activity, you can lose weight, but this isn’t a very healthy method.

Fat Burning

Black coffee has the ability to help burn fat. By putting sugar in coffee it cancels out the fat burning properties. Try drinking black coffee in the morning before you eat your breakfast and you should find it easier to keep your weight under control.

More Energy

The flavor of a coffee blend is determined by the origin of the beans. Change up your choices in blends and brands rather than drinking the same exact coffee over and over. Don’t let price be a factor, drink what you love.

Many people think coffee can aid in weight loss. Caffeine does indeed increase your energy level and increase your metabolism. This can temporarily help you with weight loss, but is not a permanent solution.

In order to enjoy your coffee as much as possible, there is quite a bit of information that you need to know about the topic. By using the tips provided in this article, you will be well on your way to becoming a coffee expert. Simply apply what you have learned and drink up!

organo-gold-300x126Most of love drinking coffees but hate the expense of paying the black gold price.  Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could have a wonderful delicious cup of coffee for only pennies on the dollar?  If so shot me and email and I will be more than happy to give you a free sample of the Organo Gold Coffee.

Your New Year’s Resolution Solution!!!

New Year's Resolution CCIt’s that time of year again…

Those beautiful lights that once set otherwise ordinary lawns aglow slowly diminish, there are trash bags full of crumpled wrapping paper and Christmas trees line the curb waiting to be picked up, as you scan the radio stations the only thing you can hear that brings back memories of the holiday are the commercials still advertising holiday specials.  And you suddenly realize the holidays are over and if you want 2013 to be different from 2012 you’ll need a better plan not just another New Year’s Resolution but a solution that will make 2013 the best year ever.

As long as I can remember every year many of us make New Year’s Resolutions on January 1st hoping to keep during the year. The list is endless with different types of resolutions we make. Some of the most popular ones are to exercise more, lose weight, quit smoking, stop procrastination, save more money, get out of debt, start a business and maybe even take an exotic vacation. Probably the most disappointing part is that most people don’t stick to their New Year’s Resolutions, in fact they barely make it days, let alone weeks past the New Year.

We often think that if you need to make a change in your life, you shouldn’t have to wait until new years to put it into action.  But, the reason it is a tradition is that it is a powerful mechanism, and requires you to be accountable to the friends and family that you tell.

Whether you think it is silly or not, it is important that you set goals for yourself, health, spiritual, family, travel, finances, and business. Consider your past endeavors and try and look at them in a new light and from a different angle…It isn’t about working harder, and destroying your quality of life…It’s about working smarter!

Breakthroughs can happen anywhere and anytime, but only when you are open to them.  Take some time to examine what is working for you and what isn’t working.  Don’t repeat the same mistakes of last year, or spin your wheels when you don’t have to. Take time to find a real solution to your New Year’s Resolution.

If you want to create a great year and actually stick to your New Year’s Resolutions consider a different solution: hypnosis. I personally feel that Hypnosis is a powerful tool that can help you become successful with your New Year’s Resolutions.  Hypnosis is excellent for changing the subconscious mind and helping it get on board with your New Year’s Resolution.  Many of us know what to do but somehow we get off course during the days, weeks and months after we make the resolution.  Hypnosis is a true solution that can help the conscious and subconscious mind learn to work together so you can able to achieve more successes during 2013.

At Balanced Life Wellness we are committed to helping you create and maintain your New Year’s Resolutions that will last all year long.

What is Hypnosis? How can it help change Behaviors or Habits?

Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation characterized by increased perception and focus of attention. People experience the hypnotic state throughout the day, often without even realizing it, such as when daydreaming or deeply concentrating on a task. Although the hypnotic state can happen spontaneously, this state can also be entered into intentionally in order to change habits, increase motivation, relax, and much more.

Hypnotism is often used to help people lose weight or stop smoking and for stress management as well. This is accomplished when the hypnotist guides a person into the deeply relaxed hypnotic state and then communicates with the person’s subconscious mind. While in a hypnotic state, the subconscious mind is much more open to suggestion than usual. Because subconscious thoughts are known to affect behavior and bodily functions, positive suggestions naturally lead to positive effects in a person’s life.

A person who is hypnotized is in complete control of themselves at all times. A hypnotist cannot force anyone to do anything against their will. Participants can choose to follow the hypnotist’s suggestions or not. For example, a hypnotist cannot force a person to stop smoking, but he/she can make suggestions to the subconscious mind that will make quitting smoking more appealing and easier to achieve by changing the person’s subconscious mindset about smoking. If the person consciously chooses to stop smoking, the subconscious mind is then in full cooperation with this choice, making the person’s resolve much stronger than if hypnosis were not used at all.

The same goes for weight loss. A hypnotist cannot make a person lose weight. In fact, weight can only be lost if fewer calories are ingested than are spent. Through the hypnotic process, however, suggestions are made to the subconscious mind that improve a person’s motivation to exercise and increases their desire to eat healthier. In this way, it is more likely that a person will make permanent lifestyle changes that support weight loss and healthy weight maintenance.

In movies and books, hypnotism is often portrayed as a form of mind control where the subject appears to be sleeping with their eyes open. This couldn’t be further from the truth. The hypnotic state is not the same as sleeping. In fact, because it requires focused attention to become hypnotized, hypnotized people are very much awake and alert. Hypnosis is, however, very relaxing. Because of this, it can be a very powerful technique to help people with issues related to sleeping. Whether it’s helping a person with stress management or breaking a pattern of insomnia or even helping a person wake up in the morning energized and motivated to begin the day, hypnotic techniques are powerful tools that train the mind to develop new habits, increase awareness, and decrease stress.

What behaviors or habits have you changed with Hypnosis?

7 Unique Benefits of Coconut Oil

7 unique benefits of coconut oilOn Wednesday, we talked about my experience with coconut oil. It is a common misconception that coconut oil is bad for you. People all over the world are experiencing the healthy benefits of coconut oil. It is actually one of the healthiest oils you can consume. Here are the top seven reasons why you should use coconut oil as an alternative to other common cooking oils.

1. Coconut oil doesn’t turn to fat in your body.

Unlike many other common oils, like soy (vegetable) and corn, coconut oil won’t make you fat. Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), which are an easy fuel for the body to burn, without turning to fat. Most other cooking oils and fats contain long-chain triglycerides (LCT). LCT’s are usually stored as fat. Since coconut oil is a MCT, it is more easily absorbed and converted to energy quickly.

People in the tropics have relied on coconuts as a traditional staple in their diet for centuries. They consume large amounts of coconut oil every day. Instead of getting fatter, it helps them stay healthy, lean and trim. When they switch from coconut oil to our modern oils, they develop obesity and the health problems that our modern society faces.

Many in the scientific community have known this truth for decades and have failed to disclose because of the competitive industry they served. When livestock are fed with vegetable oils, they put on weight and produce more fatty meat. When they are fed coconut oil, they become very lean.

2. Coconut oil increases your metabolism.

Not only does coconut oil convert to energy quicker in the body, it increases your metabolism, which promotes weight loss. Because it boosts metabolism, it helps your body burn fat more effectively.

Coconut oil may triple your calorie burn. Since coconut oil is a MCT, it is converted to energy so quickly that it creates a lot of heat. In a study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, MCT’s burn three times more calories for six hours after a meal than LCT’s.

The February 15, 2005 issue of Woman’s World magazine stated that coconut oil is the “underground high-metabolism secret.”

This is great news for people who have thyroid problems, since coconut oil improves sluggish thyroids by stimulating the production of extra thyroid hormones. Most other common oils, like vegetable (soy) and corn have been shown to inhibit thyroid function.

3. Coconut oil has omega 3 fatty acids.

Most cooking oils contain omega 6 fatty acids which are extremely unhealthy.  Our omega 6 to omega 3 ratio should be 1:1 but it is more like 50:1. We need to drastically cut back our omega 6 oils and consume much more omega 3 oils to be healthy. And coconut oil is filled with these healthy omega 3 fatty acids.

4. Coconut oil gives you energy.

Because of the healthy omega 3 fatty acids and the fact that it increases the metabolism, most people that switch to coconut oil feel a burst of added energy in their daily life.

This is because coconut oil is nature’s richest source of medium-chain triglycerides (MCT’s), which increase metabolic rates and lead to weight loss. MCT’s promote thermogenesis, which increases the body’s metabolism, producing energy. Many people with chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromyalgia have found that adding coconut and coconut oil to their diet was helpful to them.

5. One of the best products you can use on your skin and hair is coconut oil.

Coconut oil one of the best things you can apply directly on your skin and hair. It gives temporary relief to skin problems like rashes. It aids in healing and restoring skin to a younger appearance. It has also been known to help with people who suffer from yeast infections in the skin, as well as many other skin problems.

Not only does is soften and smooth your skin, coconut oil has antioxidant properties that protect the skin from free radical damage and coconut oil makes excellent massage oil too.

6. Coconut oil has healthy benefits that most other oils do not.

Evidence is mounting that coconut oil has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral effects when both consumed and used topically on the skin.

Most oils oxidize and turn rancid very quickly causing free radical damage in our bodies. Coconut oil is not easily oxidized and does not cause harmful free radical damage like polyunsaturated vegetable oils. Free radical damage is thought to be responsible for many ailments in our body from arthritis to increased susceptibility to cancers.

Coconut oil also helps our bodies absorb other nutrients more effectively, such as Vitamin E.

7. Coconut oil is one of the best oils you can use for cooking.

It has a higher smoke point than olive oil, which means it can be used at higher temperatures better. There are several healthy omega 3 oils we can choose to consume, such as flax and olive oil, but they don’t do well under the high heat we use for cooking. Coconut oil can be used in higher cooking temperatures.

It is harder for coconut oil to go rancid, unlike other cooking oils, which are usually rancid long before you even bring them home. Rancid oils cause free radical damage in the body, which is a leading cause of cancer. Coconut oil is stable for over a year at room temperature.

Because of the misinformation we have been given for years, we have lost out on the healthy benefits that coconut oil has given the people of the tropics for centuries. But now it has been rediscovered! Coconut oil is so effective, it won’t be long before we see coconut oil supplements promoted, but you can get the jump on the popular crowd and start consuming and cooking with coconut oil today!

Could This Hormone be Making you FAT?

Cortisol what is and how does it work?

When cortisol is functioning in the normal range, it helps us meet our daily challenges and stressors by converting protein into energy, releasing glycogen and counteracting inflammation.  Our bodies are designed to handle stress in small amounts, helping us cope with danger by releasing amino acids from the muscles, glucose from the liver, fatty acids into the blood steam to produce a large amount of energy (Fight or Flight Response).  When our bodies are under extended stress which raises our cortisol levels our body is in a catabolic state which causes you to lose muscle and stored fat, weaken our immune system as well as create digestive and metabolism issues which can lead to weight gain around the middle and diminished clarity of mind.

As the body ages, high levels of cortisol and estrogen for men increases, DHEA, growth hormone and testosterone decrease. At 40 years old, we start to feel aging. DHEA production falls, cortisol rises, and suddenly, we no longer have the same energy or endurance we once took for granted.

The combination of high cortisol, low DHEA and low growth hormone production causes the body to store fat, lose muscle and slow the metabolic rate.

Stress makes you burn fewer calories and cortisol can actually reduce the body’s ability to release fat from its fat stores to use for energy! Stress hormones cause increased body fat in the abdominal region, exactly where we don’t need or want it.

Chronic stress can lead the body to ignore the function of insulin.

8 Tricks to Control Cortisol:

1. Limit the amount of caffeine you ingest in your daily diet.  No caffeine after 3:00 pm which will help you sleep better and reduce your cortisol.

2. Get at least 8 hours of deep uninterrupted sleep each night.  The average 50 year old has nighttime cortisol levels more than 30 times higher than the average 30 year old. Melatonin, a hormone produced at night that helps regulate sleep/wake cycles, before going to sleep to boost your own melatonin production that also decreases with age (Nightmares are a side-affect experienced by some).

3. Hire a personal trainer to help you create a high intensity work out and interval cardio to build muscle mass and increase brain output of serotonin and dopamine, brain chemicals that reduce anxiety and depression.

4. Stabilize your blood sugar. Avoid whenever possible sugar and refined carbohydrates; eat foods high in fiber to keep your insulin production from increasing.

Eat small frequent balanced meals throughout the day.  Each meal should consist of lean protein, low glycemic carbohydrates and anti-inflammatory fats. Low glycemic carbohydrates keep cortisol levels lower than high glycemic carbohydrate diets. Drink at least ½ your body weight in ounces of water every day to keep yourself hydrated and to help stabilize your cortisol levels.

5. Take supplements like B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, chromium and zinc, and antioxidants like vitamin C with didydroquercitin, R-fraction stabilized sodium alpha lipoic acid, grape seed extract, and ubiquinol or quinogel.

Adaptogen like Ginseng, Rhodiola and Ashwagandha helps the body cope with stress and restore the metabolism back to balance. These supplement and herbs will not only lower cortisol levels but they will also help you decrease the effects of stress on the body by boosting the immune system.

6. Meditate, pray, relax learn self-hypnosis and practice relaxing yoga at least 4 times a week, it promotes the production of alpha (focused alertness) and theta (relaxed) brain waves. Avoid too much computer, texting and jolting alarm clocks that take you from delta waves (deep sleep) to beta waves (agitated and anxious) and stimulants that promote beta waves while suppressing alpha and theta waves.
