I’ll be a glutton until January, when again I’ll ask why

Why is my waist the size of a house?

Why can’t I wear by biggest stretch blouse?


Why did I eat all the candy and cheese?

Why did I answer to seconds, “Yes please!”

Why is it that I surrender my will?

Eating carbs and sugar; never feeling my fill


Why can’t I stop with just a little taste?

Why does my best friend have such small waist?

How does she curb her appetite with such ease?

Please tell me her secret, I’m begging you please


Let this be the January I wake with much pride

Noticing my hips is a little less wide

When I step on the scale without a tinge of guilt

And see such a small number instead of the word “Tilt”


Ummmmm Turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, lots of butter, cranberry sauce, stuffing, Whipped Cream piled high on Pumpkin and on Cherry Pie, had to have a piece of both.   The taste is incredible and the urge to splurge is well beyond the boundaries of reason.  Just when Thanksgiving is over, the holiday parties start and it would be rude to turn down all the dishes placed before your eyes.   Then there is Christmas Eve dinner, Christmas Dinner and the inevitable New Years dinner party and celebration.

Your New Year’s Resolution Solution!!!

New Year's Resolution CCIt’s that time of year again…

Those beautiful lights that once set otherwise ordinary lawns aglow slowly diminish, there are trash bags full of crumpled wrapping paper and Christmas trees line the curb waiting to be picked up, as you scan the radio stations the only thing you can hear that brings back memories of the holiday are the commercials still advertising holiday specials.  And you suddenly realize the holidays are over and if you want 2013 to be different from 2012 you’ll need a better plan not just another New Year’s Resolution but a solution that will make 2013 the best year ever.

As long as I can remember every year many of us make New Year’s Resolutions on January 1st hoping to keep during the year. The list is endless with different types of resolutions we make. Some of the most popular ones are to exercise more, lose weight, quit smoking, stop procrastination, save more money, get out of debt, start a business and maybe even take an exotic vacation. Probably the most disappointing part is that most people don’t stick to their New Year’s Resolutions, in fact they barely make it days, let alone weeks past the New Year.

We often think that if you need to make a change in your life, you shouldn’t have to wait until new years to put it into action.  But, the reason it is a tradition is that it is a powerful mechanism, and requires you to be accountable to the friends and family that you tell.

Whether you think it is silly or not, it is important that you set goals for yourself, health, spiritual, family, travel, finances, and business. Consider your past endeavors and try and look at them in a new light and from a different angle…It isn’t about working harder, and destroying your quality of life…It’s about working smarter!

What is Hypnosis? How can it help change Behaviors or Habits?

Hypnosis is a natural state of deep relaxation characterized by increased perception and focus of attention. People experience the hypnotic state throughout the day, often without even realizing it, such as when daydreaming or deeply concentrating on a task. Although the hypnotic state can happen spontaneously, this state can also be entered into intentionally in order to change habits, increase motivation, relax, and much more.

Hypnotism is often used to help people lose weight or stop smoking and for stress management as well. This is accomplished when the hypnotist guides a person into the deeply relaxed hypnotic state and then communicates with the person’s subconscious mind. While in a hypnotic state, the subconscious mind is much more open to suggestion than usual. Because subconscious thoughts are known to affect behavior and bodily functions, positive suggestions naturally lead to positive effects in a person’s life.

A person who is hypnotized is in complete control of themselves at all times. A hypnotist cannot force anyone to do anything against their will. Participants can choose to follow the hypnotist’s suggestions or not. For example, a hypnotist cannot force a person to stop smoking, but he/she can make suggestions to the subconscious mind that will make quitting smoking more appealing and easier to achieve by changing the person’s subconscious mindset about smoking. If the person consciously chooses to stop smoking, the subconscious mind is then in full cooperation with this choice, making the person’s resolve much stronger than if hypnosis were not used at all.

The same goes for weight loss. A hypnotist cannot make a person lose weight. In fact, weight can only be lost if fewer calories are ingested than are spent. People all over the world are experiencing the healthy benefits of coconut oil. It is actually one of the healthiest oils you can consume. Here are the top seven reasons why you should use coconut oil as an alternative to other common cooking oils.

1. Coconut oil doesn’t turn to fat in your body.

Unlike many other common oils, like soy (vegetable) and corn, coconut oil won’t make you fat. Coconut oil contains medium-chain triglycerides (MCT), which are an easy fuel for the body to burn, without turning to fat. Most other cooking oils and fats contain long-chain triglycerides (LCT). LCT’s are usually stored as fat. Since coconut oil is a MCT, it is more easily absorbed and converted to energy quickly.

People in the tropics have relied on coconuts as a traditional staple in their diet for centuries. They consume large amounts of coconut oil every day. Could This Hormone be Making you FAT?

Cortisol what is and how does it work?

When cortisol is functioning in the normal range, it helps us meet our daily challenges and stressors by converting protein into energy, releasing glycogen and counteracting inflammation.  Our bodies are designed to handle stress in small amounts, helping us cope with danger by releasing amino acids from the muscles, glucose from the liver, fatty acids into the blood steam to produce a large amount of energy (Fight or Flight Response).  When our bodies are under extended stress which raises our cortisol levels our body is in a catabolic state which causes you to lose muscle and stored fat, weaken our immune system as well as create digestive and metabolism issues which can lead to weight gain around the middle and diminished clarity of mind.

As the body ages, high levels of cortisol and estrogen for men increases, DHEA, growth hormone and testosterone decrease. At 40 years old, we start to feel aging. DHEA production falls, cortisol rises, and suddenly, we no longer have the same energy or endurance we once took for granted.

The combination of high cortisol, low DHEA and low growth hormone production causes the body to store fat, lose muscle and slow the metabolic rate.

Stress makes you burn fewer calories and cortisol can actually reduce the body’s ability to release fat from its fat stores to use for energy! Stress hormones cause increased body fat in the abdominal region, exactly where we don’t need or want it.

Chronic stress can lead the body to ignore the function of insulin.

8 Tricks to Control Cortisol:

1. Limit the amount of caffeine you ingest in your daily diet.  No caffeine after 3:00 pm which will help you sleep better and reduce your cortisol.

2. Get at least 8 hours of deep uninterrupted sleep each night.  The average 50 year old has nighttime cortisol levels more than 30 times higher than the average 30 year old. Melatonin, a hormone produced at night that helps regulate sleep/wake cycles, before going to sleep to boost your own melatonin production that also decreases with age (Nightmares are a side-affect experienced by some).

3. Hire a personal trainer to help you create a high intensity work out and interval cardio to build muscle mass and increase brain output of serotonin and dopamine, brain chemicals that reduce anxiety and depression.

4. Stabilize your blood sugar. Avoid whenever possible sugar and refined carbohydrates; eat foods high in fiber to keep your insulin production from increasing.

Eat small frequent balanced meals throughout the day.  Each meal should consist of lean protein, low glycemic carbohydrates and anti-inflammatory fats. Low glycemic carbohydrates keep cortisol levels lower than high glycemic carbohydrate diets. Drink at least ½ your body weight in ounces of water every day to keep yourself hydrated and to help stabilize your cortisol levels.

5. Take supplements like B vitamins, calcium, magnesium, chromium and zinc, and antioxidants like vitamin C with didydroquercitin, R-fraction stabilized sodium alpha lipoic acid, grape seed extract, and ubiquinol or quinogel.

Adaptogen like Ginseng, Rhodiola and Ashwagandha helps the body cope with stress and restore the metabolism back to balance. These supplement and herbs will not only lower cortisol levels but they will also help you decrease the effects of stress on the body by boosting the immune system.

6. Meditate, pray, relax learn self-hypnosis and practice relaxing yoga at least 4 times a week, it promotes the production of alpha (focused alertness) and theta (relaxed) brain waves. Avoid too much computer, texting and jolting alarm clocks that take you from delta waves (deep sleep) to beta waves (agitated and anxious) and stimulants that promote beta waves while suppressing alpha and theta waves.
